Today and every day, we’re on a mission to celebrate the inspiring women behind the furniture, lighting, decor, and textiles that make up our design industry. While we transition back from a life in the pandemic, and while we’re living through battles around the globe, we wanted to spotlight a battle closer to home – the recognition of women makers. As the founder and editor-in-chief of Design Pataki, I’ve tried my best to ensure that our journalistic bedrock is the voice for women in design. From my personal journey in the industry to the many conversations and interviews we’ve had with female designers, artists, and entrepreneurs, the fundamental take away has been to empower each other by creating a positive and supportive environment. With social media, 6 degrees of separation is real, making it easier to connect, learn and achieve. Somewhere along the line this subconscious personal thinking has resulted in my making Design Pataki a completely female led and run magazine.
This Women’s Day, we speak with Kohelika Kohli, Jenny Pinto and Samira Rathod on inequity in design, getting their valued insights into the gender-specific challenges they’ve faced over the years and their perspectives on what can make a difference to entrants in the field.
We’re also putting a spotlight on eight unique women-led furniture and decor brands whose offerings are unique, noteworthy additions to the country’s design scene.
The future is female, and we can’t wait to design it.
