Beluga Yacht – The Deck |
Black and white is the hottest trend for Spring 2013. Houndstooth, chevron & stripes have made a huge impact this year. Who best to help you style with black and white, than Anouska Hempel. This was her signature style when she started designing. It was way beyond its years back then. Using the two solid colors she has transformed spaces. Making them look chic, modern and individualistic.
The Beluga Yacht designed by Anouska Hempel moves away from the cliche blue and white. Most important is to understand the impact of furnishings to a space. Dont get carried away by those prints, be effective with solids. The key is to get the correct black. I know that sounds weird, you must be like black’s black. But there are different tones, hold fabrics next to each other and you will notice. You want to pick the deepest, richest, jet black. Another element which works well is wall paper. Bold stripes are easily available and is a short cut to achieve the look.

Anouska Hempel’s complete design of this apartment in New York is one of Russian romance – using black, white and dark green, with Empire and Biedermeier references. All form part of the visual story she weaves. Using mahogany to compliment the silk.
One of my favourite reference images (last) for styling. Simply because of the attention to detail. The headboard stripes transcend into the bolster and reflects in to the cushions. The monotony in the stripes is broken with frames. Again colours in the frames would have killed the look. Instead she has picked pencil renderings to keep with the tones.
