THE MET GALA
The 2025 Met Gala is set for Monday, May 5, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, marking the highly anticipated opening of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s influential 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the exhibit will showcase a compelling selection of garments, paintings, and photographs. It celebrates the elegance and enduring influence of Black men’s style, tracing the evolution of dandyism from the 18th century to the present. Miller, an expert on Black fashion and identity, joins as a guest curator alongside Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute’s Curator in Charge.
This year’s co-chairs include Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James as honorary chair. The Met Gala serves as a significant fundraiser for The Costume Institute, drawing high-profile figures from fashion, film, and music. Each year, the gala raises millions for the institute, solidifying its status as a celebration of art and an impactful charity event.
