Madras Makers
Furniture
Madras Makers is a Chennai-based bespoke company whose focus lies on exquisitely crafted wooden furniture. Founded by Prem Balasubramanian and Carola Winnie in 2013, Madras Makers approaches design in a holistic manner, with maximum integration of resource, technology and craft. Their furniture is made timeless through good design and skilled craftsmanship. Through their nostalgic wicker pieces, Madras Makers revives mid-century modern sensibilities and layers them with a modern edge – making them thoroughly appealing to both classic and contemporary consumers alike.
One of the most distinctive features of Madras Makers is the superlative quality of wood they use to build their furniture. The company has made it an objective to use only reclaimed wood, which comes majorly from historical, colonial buildings in Chennai. Apart from being a hundred percent sustainable, the wood is set apart from plantation grade teak by its excellent grain density, visual grain structure, and natural seasoning over centuries. Madras Makers uses the highest grade of genuine reclaimed Burma and Balharshah teak, along with other native species of wood such as Indian Laurel and Flowering Murdah, and a rare, premium stock of rosewood.
Each piece of furniture by Madras Makers has a rich history woven into it, making it an heirloom that can be passed down for generations.
