BENGAL BIENNALE
From November 29, 2024, to January 5, 2025, the Bengal Biennale will in its inaugural edition will open with a compelling theme, ‘Anka-Banka: Through Cross-Currents.’ Set against the backdrop of Kolkata and its environs, the Bengal Biennale promises an immersive experience that redefines art’s role in shaping society, celebrating its transformative power. In Bengali, ‘Anka’ symbolizes drawing—where thought takes form—while ‘Banka’ evokes a serpentine path, embodying the twists and turns of life and art. Together, they illustrate a journey where meaning emerges from the curves and deviations, resonating deeply with Bengal’s artistic heritage.
Curated with a contemporary lens, this edition celebrates intersections—where art meets science, tradition merges with modernity. Rooted in Bengal’s rich history of cultural exchange, from the Cubist explorations of Gaganendranath Tagore to the Pn-Asian vision of Rabindranath, the biennale embraces the region’s legacy while forging new narratives. The event brings together masterworks, emerging talents, and underrepresented voices, fostering inclusivity and adialogue.
