In the intricate dance between loom and thread, stories come alive—stories of heritage, artistry and a spiritual communion that transcends borders. From geometric block prints to hand-quilted dhurries, Pune-based Altrove draws from the country’s rich design heritage and masterfully blends it with contemporary sensibilities, resonating with a global audience. The Rhea Kapoor x Altrove collection, their latest home décor ensemble, is a living narrative.

Launched in August 2024, this exclusive collection is a confluence of stylist Rhea Kapoor’s discerning eye and Altrove’s artisan-driven entrepreneurship, infusing a sense of novelty into everyday objects. Shreya Mantri, a textile retail maverick and founder of Altrove, effortlessly code-switched between conceptualising staple pieces that could hide in plain sight and rare collectables that would stand out. Matching her fashion-forward sensibilities and a deep connection with the city of New York, Kapoor dipped into her sartorial genius, to conjure up a different kind of tapestry this time—one that wraps itself around the home, hugging it in shades of olive, brown and rust.

A Touch Of Organic Serenity

“The colour palette we chose doesn’t just fade into the background,” Kapoor explains. “These hues are sure of themselves and blend into everything without becoming neutral.” The collection features a curated assemblage of table linens, bedding, cushion covers and accessories dyed in a calming afterglow. The table linens, made from unconventional materials like gauze, hand-woven slub and dhurrie, bring an unexpected element of texture to dining spaces. “These pieces draw from nature and rustic materiality, so they always feel like an extension of what you’re already seeing in your home,” says Shreya Mantri, founder of Altrove. “The accessories tell their tales—dowel wooden baskets inspired by bridge architecture, white-washed rattan baskets that capture the simplicity of a quiet afternoon, and papier-mâché pieces embodying the spirit of an era long gone.

A Dialogue Between The Past And Present

Highlights from the bedroom décor include yarn-dyed comforters and plush cotton matelassé coverlets that exude comfort while offering visual depth. Elaborate jacquard bed covers and the showstopping Bleecker quilt, available in ivory and beige, lend a tactile appeal that encourages intimacy and relaxation. The cushion range with its sumptuous block prints and moody tones on bouclé, velvet and corduroy, showcases a modern take on classic craft. Each piece is designed in-house and dives deep into the aquifers of bygone splendour Mantri aptly describes it, “We’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible with Indian craftsmanship. The journey has only just begun.”

“The world has been appreciative of Indian craftsmanship for a very long time without realising that it’s Indian!” adds Kapoor. “We’ve integrated it in such an easy manner—it doesn’t feel fussy or dated. It can belong in your house and still bring a piece of our heritage with it.”

The Rhea Kapoor x Altrove collection will be available exclusively online starting August 22, 2024, on Altrove.
