Moving away from the conventional use of blue or pink, this gender-neutral kids’ room in an Ahmedabad residence by Principal Architect Ayushi Raval of Studio Chitra is a spectacular presentation of chromatic extravagance. The room’s design takes cues from nature and the concept of imaginative play is showcased through elements like a tree-inspired headboard and a wardrobe resembling a castle. The unique custom-made rotating study table designed for group activities is the standout feature of this room. Eco-consciousness takes precedence with high-quality MDF, durable laminates and soft, hypoallergenic bed linens.

The Drool Room designed by Design i.O encapsulates a whimsical jungle-inspired haven in Ludhiana. A chromatic palette of pastel green, white, grey and yellow formulates the overall colour theme of the space. The most striking element of this room is the fluid white ceiling that drips like drool down onto the walls and converges with a green wallpaper with animal line drawings leading to some fun wordplay. This joyous space is a delightful blend of safety, functionality and playful animal illustrations. Soft flowing lines and organic forms dominate the design, ensuring a child-friendly environment devoid of harsh edges.

A bulbous couch from Ek Kalakar Designs is positioned in front of the sheer curtains offering a cosy corner to lounge on. A custom irregular-shaped yellow rug serves as a perfect play mat. Opposite the bed is a bespoke toy unit, doubling as a clever storage solution with abundant space for toys, books, and other essentials. Embedded within this design, a circular sit-out beckons, offering a cosy spot for reading and lounging—meeting all the practical needs of its young inhabitants.

 

3.  Fantastical Colour Play By Storey Tellers Design Studio

As vibrant as macarons and as sweet as a cupcake, this kid’s bedroom in Greater Noida is a whimsical design playground, with playful splashes of contrasting peach coral and mint sage green. Storey Tellers Design Studio has decked the chamber with an on-the-spot-built multifunctional unit: a desk, a curved bookshelf, and a bunk bed with steps leading to the upper bunk. At the far end, a wardrobe continues the playful colour scheme, with a visual line separating the minty green base from the warm coral top.

Every piece of furniture that makes this room endearing and calm, has been designed and crafted in-house. The room is a reflection of how playful furnishings and charming strokes of colour can capture the unique spirit of a child.

4.  A Human-Sized Dollhouse By Tejal Mathur

Echoing a cheerful vintage essence in a petite space, this particular bedroom in Mumbai helmed by Tejal Mathur possesses a charm akin to a dollhouse. Featuring a chest of drawers, a grey rattan bed crafted by Ironworks, and a mint pastel study unit – this room perfectly caters to its occupant’s every need. A sense of chic simplicity is present where a mint-checkered wallpaper leads the design within the space.

With a mission to accommodate sleepovers and comfort for all, Soul Space Design Studio crafts a marine wonder in Bangalore for a toddler fascinated with animals and aquatic creatures. Dominating the space is a vibrant floor-to-ceiling mural by Nishka Mehta that depicts the underwater world. Interactive features like a blackboard wall and an adorably scaled mirror are design ideas any child would adore. Ingenious storage solutions such as pull-out baskets and an intuitively organised PU-coated wardrobe maintain order amidst the lively chaos of toddlerhood.
