Borderline Play was launched in 2018 by architect-turned product designer Anica Kocchar in an endeavour to bring whimsy to the mundane. It is an India based modern-day design house that aims to bring playfulness to the mundane through a series of elevated essentials. The products, which range from furniture pieces and carpets to cushions and table linen, are created to spark creativity and elevate the joy of human interactions. Borderline Play experiments with bold forms, combining urban influences with Indian colours and craftsmanship.
Founder of the brand, Anica Kochhar is a trained Architect and Urban Designer from the Pratt Institute in New York City and from the Architectural Association in London. “Colours and 3D geometry have been a big part of my visual identity and inquisitive journey. Influences like Peter Cook’s archigram where they see cities and habitats as machines, the city-block culture of Manhattan and the mind games of MC Escher continue to fascinate me,” she says.
